Today's Game Tonight, the Bisons and Pawtucket Red Sox will try again to open up the 2016 season at McCoy Stadium (6:15 p.m.). Last night's scheduled opener was postponed and will be made up in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bisons' 2016 Home Opener is on Thursday, April 14 against the Rochester Red Wings (2:05 p.m.).
vs. Pawtucket (0-0) The Bisons and Red Sox will play 18 times this season in the IL's unbalanced schedule. In 309 modern day contests (since 1985), the Herd has just one more win in the rivalry, 155-154. The last time Buffalo opened a season at McCoy Stadium was April 5, 2012 when RHP Justin Germano outdueled RHP Matt Harvey in a 4-2 PawSox win.
#OurMoment The 2016 season marks the Bisons' fourth year as Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Buffalo has finished 3rd in the IL North division in each of the first three seasons with Toronto. Since 2013, the Herd has won 219 games (219-212), the most for a three-year span since they won 220 from 2005-2007.
Muggsy GARY ALLENSON begins his third season as manager of the Bisons. The Herd has a 145-142 (.505) record under the team's 19th modern day manager. Allenson enters his 22nd season as a minor league skipper with 1,245 career wins. He was an International League MVP as a player for Pawtucket in 1978, hitting .299 with 20 homers and 76 RBI.
Hutch RHP DREW HUTCHISON gets the start for the Herd tonight. The 25-year old won 13 games with Toronto a season ago while finishing 2nd on the club with 129 strikeouts. Overall, he was 13-5 with a 5.57 ERA in 30 appearances. He also made one start for the Bisons last year, falling to Syracuse on August 23 (4.0IP, 3H, 2R/ER, 3BB, 4K).
Starting Strong The Bisons season-opening rotation includes three pitchers that won 10+ games in 2015. Along with Hutchison's 13 wins for the Blue Jays, LHP SCOTT DIAMOND and 2015 Bisons Most Valuable Pitcher RHP SCOTT COPELAND each won 11 games, tied with each other for 3rd-most in the International League last year.
Opening Day Roster The Bisons 2016 Opening Day roster includes 21 player with Major League experience. OF DOMONIC BROWN was a National League All-Star with Philadelphia in 2013 and 1B CASEY KOTCHMAN has the highest fielding pct. (.9975) in MLB history. Hutchison, Copeland, RHP CHAD JENKINS, RHP RYAN TEPERA, OF DALTON POMPEY all appeared for the Blue Jays last season.
