Pigs Open 2016 Season with Doubleheader

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will take on the Syracuse Chiefs in a doubleheader to open the 2016 season on Friday morning. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is slated for 11:05 a.m.

RHP Jake Thompson will make his Triple-A debut as he gets the ball for the IronPigs in game one. The Dallas native spent most of 2015 with Frisco (AA), but also had 7 GS with Reading (AA) after being acquired by the Phillies as part of the Cole Hamels trade. Between the two stops, Thompson was 11-7 with a 3.73 ERA in 24 GS.

RHP A.J. Cole gets the ball for Syracuse in game one this morning. The right-hander spent most of the 2015 season with the Chiefs, going 5-6 with a 3.15 ERA in 21 G (19 GS). Cole also appeared in 3 G with the Nationals and posted a 5.79 ERA over 9.1 IP. In his career vs. Lehigh Valley, the Winter Springs, Fla., native is 2-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 4 GS.

LHP Adam Morgan is scheduled to be on the bump for manager Dave Brundage's squad in the second half of today's twinbill. The southpaw began the 2015 season with the Pigs and was 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA in 13 GS before earning the promotion to Philadelphia on Father's Day of last season. In 15 GS with the Phillies, Morgan was 5-7 with a 4.48 ERA.

RHP Taylor Jordan takes the hill for Syracuse in game two. Jordan pitched most of 2015 with the Chiefs and was 5-6 with a 2.95 ERA over 19 GS, but also appeared in 4 G (1 GS) with the Nationals, going 0-2 with a 5.29 ERA. In three career starts vs. Lehigh Valley, the right-hander has posted a 1.69 ERA allowing just three earned runs in 16.0 IP.
