
Rebels sneak by T-Birds

Red Deer, AB - The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 Saturday night at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta.
This was the fifth game of a six-game road trip to the Central Division. The T-Birds finish out the road trip Sunday night in Edmonton against the Oil Kings at 4 p.m. The T-Birds are 0-4-1-0 so far on the trip.
Carter Smith scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 5:47 of the first period to put the Rebels up 1-0. Seattle outshot Red Deer (7-15-4-1) 9-4 in the first period.
Jeremy Boyer tied the game 1-1 at 6:10 of the second period. Bud Holloway made a pass up ice to Greg Scott who carried the puck into the Red Deer zone. Scott got turned around by the Rebels defense but was able to make a pass to Boyer coming down the right wing. Boyer beat Red Deer goalie Morgan Clark from the face off dot with a snap shot on the stick side. It was Boyer's eighth goal of the year.
The T-Birds outshot the Rebels 14-8 in the second period and led 24-12 in total shots after two periods.
Mark Louis scored a power-play goal at 2:42 of the third to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead. Landon Ferraro and Scott Doucet had the assists.
Seattle (8-9-3-1) tied the game 2-2 at 4:08 of the third on the second goal of the game from Boyer. Sena Acolatse kept the puck in the Rebels zone at the right point and put a wrist shot on goal. The puck rebounded to Boyer in the slot. Boyer beat Clark with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
Ferraro scored at 18:17 of the third to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead. Spencer Edwards and Tyler Penny had the assists.
The T-Birds outshot the Rebels 14-11 in the third period and 37-23 in the game.
Seattle goalie Riku Helenius made 20 saves on 23 shots and his record is now 5-7-3-0.
Clark made 35 saves on 37 shots and improved his record to 4-10-0-1.
