RED DEER - The Red Deer Rebels are off to the second round of the WHL Playoffs for the third-straight year.
The Rebels downed the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-2 Friday night at Co-op Place in Medicine Hat to win their first-round series four games to one. It's the first playoff series victory for Red Deer over Medicine Hat since 2003.
Red Deer will take on the Saskatoon Blades in round two, the WHL Eastern Conference Semifinals, for the second year in a row. Saskatoon edged the Rebels in seven games a year ago. The two clubs split their four games during the 2023-24 WHL Regular Season with each team winning once at home and once on the road. Red Deer won the two most recent meetings, 5-4 at the Peavey Mart Centrium on January 17 and 5-0 at SaskTel Centre on February 27 (the only time Saskatoon was shutout all season).
Game One of the series goes at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon on Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. followed by game two Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m.
The series shifts to the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer for game three Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17, both at 7 p.m. Tickets for both games go on sale Saturday, April 6 starting at 10 a.m. at ticketsalberta.com and the Box Office at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
