Blades Advance to Round 2 After Four-Goal First Period

OFF TO ROUND 2: Four goals in a 9:12 span in the first period paved the path the Saskatoon Blades eliminate the Prince Albert Raiders in Game 5 with a 6-2 victory at SaskTel Centre on Friday. The Blades punched their ticket to the second round, defeating their Highway 11 rival 4-1 in the best-of-seven first round series.

Six different Blades scored in the victory, including Toronto Maple Leafs property Fraser Minten and Brandon Lisowsky. Both men netted their first goals of the postseason as Minten earned first star with a goal and an assist and finished +4 on the evening. The Vancouver, BC product has four points (1G, 3A) in five games this postseason. Lisowsky was named second star after he notched a goal and an assist, giving him three points (1G, 2A) after the five-game series.

Captain Trevor Wong, alternate captain Charlie Wright, and Washington Capitals prospect Alexander Suzdalev also all finished with a goal and an assist. Wong is now tied for the team-lead in points this postseason with seven (2G, 5A) alongside forward Easton Armstrong, while Wright leads all Saskatoon defenceman with six points (1G, 5A).

After back-to-back series that went seven games last year for the Blades, the Blue and Gold can enjoy some time off with Game 1 against the Red Deer Rebels scheduled Friday, April 12th at SaskTel Centre.

NEXT GAME: The Blades collide with the Red Deer Rebels in Round 2 for an Eastern Conference semi-final rematch from last year. The Blades became the third team in WHL history to overcome a 3-0 series deficit in last year's battle against Red Deer. Game 1 kicks off at SaskTel Centre Friday, April 12th at 4:00pm with Game 2 on Sunday, April 14th at 4:00pm.
