Akron, OH - After an eight day hiatus from live game action, the Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, were defeated by the Akron Racers 9-2 Saturday at Firestone Stadium.
Akron ace Rachele Fico, who was the Racers first overall selection in the 2013 NPF Draft, picked up her second win against the Rebellion this season as she allowed two runs over four innings. Fico struck out one, walked one and gave up just two hits.
On the other side of the pitching circle, Rebellion starter Sarah Pauly, took the loss as she allowed six runs in four innings, walked none and struck out one.
The Racers wasted no time to put runs on the board as the offense erupted for four runs off three hits in the bottom of the first inning to go ahead 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Pennsylvania's offense produced some noise as Bianca Mejia started the frame off with a single. She later scored as Courtney Liddle drilled her second home run of the season, a two-run homer, to cut the deficit 4-2. But, a fly out to left by Jenn Salling ended the Rebellion's threat.
Akron quickly answered the call in the bottom of the fourth as they scored two runs of their own on sequential groundouts by Ayumi Karino and Nerissa Myers. The home team increased their lead by three more runs in the fifth as first baseman Kailee Cuico blasted a solo home run to make the score 7-2. Karino stepped up to the plate yet again in the fifth and drilled a two-run RBI double to secure the 9-2 victory for Akron.
The Rebellion and the Racers continue to battle at tomorrow afternoon at Firestone Stadium. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. and all the action can be heard on the MSA Sports Network. The Rebellion returns home Saturday, July 5 for a four-game home stand versus the USSSA Pride.ÃÂ For tickets and/or group packages, contact the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724.250.7412.
