Real Salt Lake News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (Wednesday, February 8, 2006) - Real Salt Lake tallied its second win of the preseason today with a 2-1 victory over the MetroStars at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. RSL's two goals were scored by 2006 MLS SuperDraft second overall pick MF Medhi Ballouchy and FW Jamie Watson, while the lone goal for the MetroStars was scored by MF Mark Lisi.
"In the game we had more veteran players in the first half than in the second half," said RSL Head Coach John Ellinger. "Progress is going really good considering we have not spent a lot of time on shape issues or overall tactics. Primarily we are just trying to get the players back into some resemblance of fitness and comfortable with the ball. Overall I was pleased with the play in both halves by the two groups."
RSL captured the first goal in the game at the close of the first half. 2006 MLS SuperDraft first round pick MF Mehdi Ballouchy added his first goal in an RSL uniform when DF Chris Brown played a through ball from the defense to the Santa Clara University product. Ballouchy was standing just outside the box when he turned and rocketed a low shot. MF Seth Trembly made a play on the ball and at the last second stepped away allowing Ballouchy's shot to sail past GK Tony Meola in the 41st minute.
Real began the second half substituting its entire lineup minus âkeeper Jay Nolly. Just three minutes into the half, RSL tallied its second goal of the match off a penalty kick after FW Jamie Watson was taken down in box in the 48th minute. The MetroStars notched its only goal of the game when MF Eddie Gaven deflected a ball off of Nolly. Lisi found the lose ball and fired a shot into the back of the net in the 60th minute.
