Reading Takes Series from Erie on Independence Day

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
On Independence Day, the Reading Fightin Phils topped the Erie Seawolves 6 to 5. The R-Phils took the series victory winning four of the six games. Two Reading players had a multi-hit games as Daniel Brito recorded two and Madison Stokes had three.
The Fightins secured their first run of the night when Brito tripled in the third and was brought home by Bryson Stott to tie it up at one all.
Then the team put up a four spot in the fifth that put them up 5-2. Jack Conley and Sal Gozzo walked and Brito reached on an error to load the bases. A two-run double from Jorge Bonifacio scored two and an RBI single from Stokes brought in another. Logan Landon sent a sacrifice fly ball out to right for the fourth run.
In the top of the ninth, Brito led off with a base hit and Bonifacio and Stokes followed with walks. Landon walked in the winning run of the game with the bases loaded to make it 6 to 5.
Erie had four solo shots throughout the night one a piece from Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Spencer Torkelson, and Josh Lester. They also added a run off a Fightins error in the seventh.
Josh Hendrickson (had a very successful second start of the series pitching a full five allowing four hits and two earned runs. Tyler Carr came in first out the 'pen letting up three hits and one earned run. Jonathan Hennigan took the ball with two runners on in the bottom of the sixth and notched a strikeout to get out of the inning. He allowed one unearned run in the seventh. Austin Ross (W, 4-2) took the eighth, letting up a solo shot to tie the ball game at five a piece. Braden Zarbnisky (S, 4) came in for the ninth, slamming the door shut on Erie.
Fightins return home for twelve games in thirteen days beginning on Tuesday, July 6th.
