Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils swept both games of the doubleheader against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. They took the first in excellent fashion as Ethan Wilson walked it off in the bottom of the eighth inning 11-10. It was their seventh walk-off of the summer at America's Classic Ballpark. Reading shutout New Hampshire 4-0 in the second game with impressive bullpen pitching. This was their seventh shutout victory in 2022.
Game 1
Reading took an early lead with a four-run first inning. Johan Rojas, Carlos De La Cruz and Wendell Rijo all singled up the middle to load the bases. Jhailyn Ortiz reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Then, Aldrem Corredor smoked a bases clearing double to put the Fightins up 4-0.
In the top of the third, a three run blast off the bat of John Aiello put the Fisher Cats back in the ballgame.
The Fightins added two more in the fifth. De La Cruz singled to reach and Ortiz's base knock put runners on the corners. Wilson drove in De La Cruz and another Fisher Cats miscue allowed Ortiz to score. Reading led 6-3.
They tacked on another in the seventh. Rojas reached on a fielder's choice. He stole second and moved to third on the catcher's throwing error. The center fielder let the ball slip under his glove and Rojas sprinted home for a 7-3 advantage.
The Fisher Cats went off in the top of the seventh. They plated five runs on four hits and three walks batting through the order. Addison Barger smacked a grand slam to right center to help New Hampshire take an 8-7 lead.
In the bottom half, Reading fought to stay alive. Ortiz got to first on the fifth Cats error of the contest. He moved into scoring position on Corredor's walk. Kevin Vicuna's dropped one into shallow center to drive in the tying run.
In extras, New Hampshire took advantage of the placed runner. Davis Schnieder immediately singed him in and a sac fly thanks to Orelvis Martinez made it 10-8.
The R-Phils weren't ready to give it up just yet. Herbert Iser started as the placed runner on second. Jonathan Guzman poked a single the opposite way to send in Iser. Rojas singled and De La Cruz walked to load the bases. Rijo walked in the tying run making it 10-10. With them still loaded, Ethan Wilson lined a ball into left and Rojas crossed the plate for the winning run, taking it 11-10.

Game 2
