Reading is Wild Set for Its Eleventh Year

The Atlantic Division leading Moncton Wildcats, have announced the participating schools in the eleventh year of their "Reading is Wild" program. This year 1,629 students will be involved. They expect to read over 47,000 books during the next four weeks. Last year 60,402 books were read during the five weeks between the middle of January and February.

The four schools involved are Claude D. Taylor, with 450 students from kindergarten to grade five. Their reading goal is set at 12,000 books, with start up rally set for 9 am on Monday, January 12th.

Bessborough/Uplands school. with 470 students, covering kindergarten to grade 8, has set a reading goal of 15,000 books during the five week timeline. Their launch will also be on Monday the 12th, starting at 10:45am.

The five hundred students, in grades kindergarten to grade 8, at Magnetic Hill school, have set a reading goal of 15,000 books. A Rally launching their program will be at 12:45 on Monday.

At Hillsborough Elementary, covering kindergarten to grade 5, 209 students expect to read 5000 books during the five weeks starting on Tuesday, January 13th at 11am and ending a month later.

Students will be given a ballot for each book read, with four weekly prizes being awarded. One student from each school will be selected as the Reading of the Week, for showing increased interest and improvement in reading. Their names will be announced on local radio every Friday morning.

The Reading is Wild program has been endorsed and support by school administrator and teachers in South Eastern New Brunswick since 1998.
