Read Selected for Canadian National Team

(Urbandale, IA) Former Des Moines Buccaneers forward Matt Read has been selected to compete for Team Canada at this month's Men's World Championships in Belarus, Hockey Canada announced over the weekend. This is the second consecutive year that Petry has been a part of Team Canada at the World Championships, appearing in registering 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) last season.

The tournament runs from May 9th-May 25th.

Read concluded his third professional season with the Philadelphia Flyers last weekend, appearing in 82 total games with playoffs included. Since joining the Flyers for the start of the 2011-2012 season, Read has played in 214 NHL games and has been regular in the Flyers' line-up. He has 61 career goals.

The Calgary, AB native played for the Buccaneers in 2006-2007 and had 64 points (30, 34) in 66 games. He then spent four seasons playing Division I hockey at Bemidji State including two years as a team captain.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are prepping for their 35th anniversary season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
