(Peterborough, ON) - On Thursday, November 12, Petes players, staff, and billet families took part in the safeTALK program. RBC coordinated the training session, and has been named the presenting sponsor of both the safeTALK suicide prevention program and the partnership between the Petes and the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (CMHA HKPR).

safeTALK ("Suicide Alertness For Everyone - Tell Ask Listen Keep safe") is a LivingWorks® suicide alertness program that prepares community members to be suicide alert helpers in only three hours. safeTALK participants are aware that opportunities to help a person with thoughts of suicide are sometimes missed, dismissed and avoided.

RBC is committed to making Peterborough and the surrounding area a suicide safe community by working to support the already strong partnership between the Petes and the CMHA. Thursday's training session was part of an OHL-wide initiative called Talk Today, which was spearheaded by the Petes in the 2013/14 season.

The local CMHA HKPR Branch can provide safeTALK training and other mental Health Education for community groups, schools and the work place. Click here to learn more about the program.
