
RazorSharks 2-0 Heading Into Home Opener November 16

(Rochester, New York)...The Rochester RazorSharks won their second straight road game of the young American Basketball Association season as they defeated the Strong Island Sound 111-102 on Saturday night at Suffolk Community College. The RazorSharks are 2-0 heading into the 2006-2007 home opener at The Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester on Thursday, November 16.
Keith Friel led all scorers with 28 points, including six 3-pointers in the first half, and added six rebounds. Friel is averaging 25 points in the RazorSharks first two games this season. Demond Stewart (Olympia HS/Niagara) had 19 points and six rebounds while forward Brian Edwards contributed 14 points and five rebounds. The RazorSharks are now 25-1 in their last 26 games, including last year's regular season and playoffs. Rochester has won nine consecutive games extending into last season. The defending ABA champions will unfurl the 2005-2006 ABA Championship banner in their home opener this Thursday against the Buffalo Silverbacks at 7:05 p.m.
LOU GRAMM, MAYOR DUFFY HEADLINE OPENING NIGHT Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy and local rock legend Lou Gramm will participate in the opening night ceremonies when the RazorSharks raise the 2005-2006 ABA championship to the rafters of The Blue Cross Arena on November 16. Mayor Duffy, a former college basketball player, will assist the team in raising the championship banner while former Foreigner lead singer Gramm belts out the national anthem. The first 2,000 fans will receive a commemorative championship poster, courtesy of the Arc Foundation of Monroe.
JOHN SALLEY TO HAND OUT CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS TO RAZORSHARKS ON NOVEMBER 18
John Salley, the Commissioner of the American Basketball Association and the first player in NBA history to play on three different championship teams, will hand out the Rochester RazorSharks championship rings to team management and players in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, November 18 at The Blue Cross Arena. The defending ABA champion RazorSharks will host the Maryland Nighthawks at 2:05 p.m. that day. The first 1,000 fans will receive replica championship rings, courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Salley is currently one of the hosts of The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Network and has appeared alongside Hollywood stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the action movies Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003). He has also hosted a radio morning talk show in Los Angeles and provided analysis for NBC's NBA Showtime.
