Baltimore Pearls will not compete in ABA for 2006-07 season
November 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Baltimore Pearls News Release
Baltimore, MD (November 14, 2006) - The following is a written statement from Baltimore Pearls owner, Matthew Bradby, that was sent out to players and staff over the weekend.
I want to inform you that the Baltimore Pearls will not participate in the ABA this season due to several financial backers and investors not following through with their individual proposals. After paying off the team debts and assuring that all players are compensated for past games, we will recruit new staff and rebuild this team in order to participate in the ABA next season.
Ollie Matson will remain the team's head coach. All players who wish to remain are more than welcome to stay. For players who are looking to play with another team this season, several teams have approached me asking for players and I will gladly help you find a place with them.
For the next few months, we will be planning and hopefully participating in national tournaments, charity games and summer leagues to give our core players an opportunity to continue to play together. The Pearl Foundation, our non-profit entity will continue to help the children and less fortunate people in our community.
I regret not being able to compete in the ABA for the 2006-07 season. I feel in the midst of this adversity, we have become wiser and stronger for the effort. God Bless & looking forward to seeing you soon.
Matthew Bradby
Owner/CEO
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
