November 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
SEATTLE - Michael Parker scored 36 points, including 21 in the second half, to lead the Bellingham Slam to a 108-96 defeat of the expansion King County Royals in an American Basketball Association game Sunday at the Wellness Center at North Seattle Community College.
The game was the first regular season action for both clubs.
Parker helped his team coast to victory thanks to 55 percent shooting from the floor. Bellingham (1-0) led 49-35 at halftime, and maintained a double-digit lead for nearly the entire second half. The Royals (0-1) closed the deficit to nine points on a Randy Green three-pointer with 1:20 remaining in the game, but the Slam closed out the game with a 5-2 run to preserve the victory.
Green and Parker shared high-scoring honors for both teams with 36 points. Former Seattle Pacific standout Chad Williams added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Royals.
The Slam had four players in double figures, including Jacob Stevenson with 22 points and Brandon Hartley with 19. The Slam played without newcomer Michael Jones, who is recovering from a back injury.
Former Western Washington players Rob Primozich and Preston Vermeulen, in their first professional basketball experience, chipped in eight and five points respectively for King County.
The Slam open up a four game homestand later this week as they entertain the Hollywood Fame in their home opener this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion
