Rays Complete 12th Season

South Carolina Stingrays News Release


For the second straight season and the third time in four years the Florida Everblades ended the season for the South Carolina Stingrays. This year, it happened in four games in the American Conference quarterfinals. The Rays season ended with a Damian Surma overtime goal. The Stingrays will begin their quest for a third Kelly Cup Title in October, 2005.

The Stingrays:

South Carolina finished the regular season with a record of 39-24-9 in third place in the East Division. The team went 1-3 in the post season. On the year, the Stingrays had a record of 25-8-3 at home and 14-16-6 on the road.

The Players:

The Stingrays successes this season were largely emphasized by the League wide recognition of key players. Rookie Joe Tenute had a banner year for the Rays, scoring 34 goals and adding 41 assists for 75 points. Tenute was named ECHL Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season. Tenute was also named to the ECHL All Rookie team and Second Team All ECHL. Fellow rookie Mark Ardelan was also a member of the ECHL All Rookie Team. Rich Peverley was also a top performer for the Stingrays scoring 30 goals on the season. Veteran Goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck had a fine season and earned a contract with the Portland Pirates of the AHL.
