Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Playoff Update: The Gladiators advanced to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive year as the beat the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-games-to-1 in the American Conference Quarterfinals. Following a 2-1 overtime win against the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday, the Gladiators lead their best-of-five series with the Checkers 1-game-to-none with Game #2 of the series tonight at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m.
White Out: Fans are still encouraged to wear white to the game to show their support for the Gladiators in the Playoffs. Gwinnett hosts Charlotte tonight in Game #2 of the ECHL American Conference Semifinals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center with Game #5 of the series, if necessary, on Saturday, April 30th.
A Good Thing to Do: Kris Goodjohn posted a goal in last night's 2-1 overtime win against the Checkers to extend his point scoring streak to three games. Goodjohn posted a goal and an assist in the Gladiators 8-1, Game #3 win against Mississippi. He had an assist in Gwinnett's series clinching 3-1 win over the Sea Wolves in Game #4. Goodjohn's point scoring streak is the longest current on going streak on the Gladiators. Brad Schell, at four consecutive games, hold the longest point scoring streak of the post season.
In the Lead: The Gladiators have held the lead or been tied for almost all of the post season. The Gladiators have only trailed for 12 minutes and 14 seconds during the playoffs when Mississippi's Austin Miller scored shorthanded at 7:13 of the first period in Game #1 of the Conference Quarterfinals. Gwinnett evened that contest at 19:27 of the first period. In the Gladiators only loss in Game #2, Gwinnett held a 1-0 lead and a 2-1 lead before Mississippi tied the game up and eventually won the contest in overtime.
In Overtime: Following last night's 2-1 overtime win in Game #1 against the Charlotte Checkers, Gwinnett is now 1-1 in the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs in overtime. The Gladiators are now 4-1 all time in post season overtime games and a perfect 2-0 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in overtime during the playoffs.
On the Plus Side: As a team, the Gladiators are currently a +46 during the playoffs. Every player on the roster is even or better in plus/minus ranking with the Gladiators while Mike Stathopoulos' +6 shares first with Lane Manson on the Gladiators while Jeff Campbell has posted a +4 for the Gladiators during the post season.
Between the Pipes: Adam Berkhoel ranks 1st in goaltending in the ECHL during the post season appearing in 4 games with the Gladiators and going a perfect 4-0. The rookie out of the University of Denver made 33 saves in last night's 2-1 overtime win against the Checkers. Berkhoel turned aside 26 shots in a 5-1 win in Game #1 against Mississippi and made 16 saves in an 8-1 win in Game #3. Berkhoel recorded 30 saves in the series clinching 3-1, Game #4 win for Gwinnett against the Sea Wolves. Berkhoel has posted a league low 0.93 goals against average and a .963 save percentage for the Gladiators in the post season.

Mike Stathopoulos recorded his 4th goal of the post season on a deflection in the slot to open the scoring at 8:29 of the first period. Chris Durno pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 less than 2 minutes later. Mississippi got on the board in the second period with a goal from Mike Martone 1:35 into the second period but Adam Smyth put the game away with a snapshot from the slot half way through the third period. Brad Schell extended his assist streak to 4 consecutive games with a helper in the win while Rick Emmett posted 2 assists in the win. Adam Berkhoel made 30 save for Gwinnett who again scored on the power play in the win.
Gwinnett wins American Conference Quarterfinal Series 3 games to 1
April 24th - Gwinnett 2, Charlotte 1 â W (ot)
Joe Bourne scored the overtime-game winning goal with just 2:39 remaining in the extra session with a slap shot from the top of the left wing face off circle. Kris Goodjohn scored the Gladiators, and the games', first goal 7:14 into the first period. Charlotte tied the game up in the second period at 12:07 of the second period to set the stage for Bourne's heroics. Lane Manson, Jeff Campbell, Mike Vigilante and Pascal Pelletier picked up assists in the win for Gwinnett. Brad Schell's four game point-scoring streak came to a halt as he was kept off the score sheet in the win. Adam Berkhoel finished with 33 saves in the overtime win.

Regular Season Series:
Gwinnett won the regular season series with a 5-2-1 record and wins in the past 4 games including a come-from-behind 4-3 shootout win over the Checkers on March 19th. Mike Vigilante scored with 1.7 seconds left in the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime where Gwinnett eventually picked up the shootout win. Sean Fields is a perfect 3-0-0 against the Checkers while Adam Berkhoel finished the regular season against the Checkers with a 2-2-0 record. Kris Goodjon's 9 points led the Gladiators against the Checkers while Mike Vigilante posted a team high 7 goals against Charlotte this season. Lee Falardeau had a team high 7 points against the Gladiators during the regular season off of 2 goals and 5 assists while Dusty Jamieson had a team high 4 goals, including a hat trick, against the Gladiators in the regular season.
