
Rattlers Foil Fireworks on Fourth for Cougars

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (45-38, 10-4) allowed three ninth inning runs in a 4-3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (39-43, 8-5) on Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. Wisconsin trimmed the Cougars lead in the western division to one game.
Wisconsin seized a first inning lead. David Fry doubled with one out. Jesus Lujano blooped a single to center to put runners at the corners. Connor McVey executed a squeeze play to score Fry from third in push the Rattlers in front, 1-0.
The Cougars didn't score in their first three at-bats against Wisconsin righty Adam Hill. Hill induced two double play balls to get out of jams in the second and third. The Cougars loaded the bases in the fourth with no one out. Blaze Alexander hit into the third double play in as many innings, but it did plate a run and tie the game, 1-1.
In the rest of his start, Tabor locked down Wisconsin. After Brent Diaz reached on a fielder's choice for the second out of the second inning, Tabor did not allow another base runner. He retired the final 13 batters he saw on his way to six innings of one-run ball, six strikeouts and no walks. Tabor took no-decision.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jose Herrera took Timber Rattlers reliver Tyler Gillies deep to right field for the go-ahead solo homer. The Cougars tacked on in the eighth when Eduardo Diaz tagged Victor Castañeda for a solo shot.
Chester Pimentel pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings. He got an out in the ninth, but allowed runners to reach first and second before being pulled. Jose Cuas inherited those two base runners. Cuas walked Gabriel Garcia to load the bases, walked Je'Von Ward to make it 3-2 and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Brent Diaz to tie the game. Wisconsin took the lead on a wild pitch, scoring Garcia from third. Pimentel was charged for the first two runs, Cuas was responsible for the go-ahead run.
Cuas (0-1) suffered the loss. Castañeda (1-1) allowed the Diaz homer, but nothing more. He pitched the final two innings to earn the win.
The Cougars and Timber Rattlers finish the two-game series on Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. First pitched is scheduled for 6:30 P.M.
