Albany River Rats News Release

SYRACUSE, NY - Trevor Frischmon scored a goal and added two assists as the Crunch rallied from a two-goal third period deficit to steal a 4-3 shootout win from the Albany River Rats Wednesday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.

Syracuse marksmen Maksim Mayorov and Pascal Pelletier scored in the first and third rounds of the shootout, respectively, but Chris Terry's second round goal and Jamie McBain's fourth round tally evened the score heading into the fifth round. Brent Regner shot next for the Crunch and beat Albany goaltender Justin Peters for the go-ahead goal, and Syracuse goalie Kevin Lalande gloved Pat Dwyer's do-or-die attempt to ice the game.

The River Rats looked to be headed towards their third straight victory with a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes of action, but the Crunch fought-back to even the score on goals from Trevor Frischmon and Alexandre Picard. Frischmon deflected a centering pass into Peters pads and crashed the net hard to shove in his own rebound at 7:07 and Picard forced overtime at 12:18 with a wrap-around stuff-in.

The Crunch cut a 2-0 deficit in half at 11:35 of the second period when D Fritsche redirected a centering pass from T Frischmon past Peters, but the River Rats responded with a tip-in goal of their own, as Stefan Chaput got a stick on a Jerome Samson wrist-shot to reclaim the two-goal lead.

Jerome Samson scored the game's first goal at 9:57 of the opening period to give the River Rats a 1-0 lead. Albany's leading scorer collected a loose puck behind the goal line, skated unmarked to the front of the net and beat Lalande upstairs on the glove side. Captain Pat Dwyer doubled his team's lead on the power play with 1:50 remaining in the frame, snapping a laser from the top of the right faceoff circle off of the far-side post and in; Brett Carson, in his first game back from injury, and Jonathan Paiement assisted on Dwyer's team-best seventh of the season.

Syracuse goalie Kevin Lalande stopped 31-of-34 shots and stopped 3-of-5 shootout attempts to earn the win as the Crunch improved to 5-6-2-1 this season. Albany goaltender Justin Peters turned-aside 27-of-30 shots faced and allowed three goals on five shootout attempts to take the shootout loss as Albany fell to 7-6-0-2 this year. The River Rats out-shot Syracuse 34-31 and went 1-for-4 on the power play; the Crunch went 0-for-1 with the man-advantage.

The River Rats return to the Times Union Center for a Friday night match-up with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and a Saturday night contest against Norfolk, both at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 season and flex ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
