RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Bryan Rodney from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rodney is being recalled to Carolina as defenseman Joni Pitkanen (illness) is likely to miss the team's game tonight at the RBC Center against the Los Angeles Kings. To make room on the roster for Rodney, the Hurricanes placed goaltender Cam Ward on injured reserve.

Rodney, 25, has scored one goal and earned four assists (5 points) in 14 AHL games with the River Rats this season. The London, Ont., native is in his fifth professional season and his second with the Hurricanes organization after signing with the club as a free agent on May 12, 2008. Rodney (6'0", 195 lbs.) made his NHL debut with Carolina in 2008-09, and earned two assists in eight games with the Hurricanes last season. He has scored nine goals and earned 50 assists (59 points) in 122 career AHL regular-season games with Hartford and Albany.

Albany plays in Syracuse tonight before returning to Albany for a pair of weekend match-ups at the Times Union Center.
