Albany Devils News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - Seven different players found the back of the net as the Lowell Devils ran away with a 7-3 win over the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday afternoon at the DCU Center. It was the second time in as many games at Worcester that the Devils posted seven goals against the Sharks. Lowell defeated Worcester, 7-5, in its home opener on Oct. 17.
The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to some early penalties on the Sharks. Skating on a two-man advantage, Matt Taormina blasted a point shot past Alex Stalock at 5:56 for his sixth goal of the season. Forty-three seconds later on the ensuing 5-on-4, Lowell struck again when Nathan Perkovich was left alone in front to pounce on the rebound from Michael Swift's shot.
Brandon Mashinter cut Lowell's lead in half before the first intermission when he beat Jeff Frazee down low with a wrist shot from the near circle.
Lowell started to pull away in the second, scoring three times in the period. Nick Palmieri made the score, 3-2, for the Devils at 6:03 with a put back of Tyler Eckford's bid from the blueline. Vladimir Zharkov then gave Lowell a three-goal edge almost four minutes later when he cut out from behind the net to knock Chris Murray's shot from the side wall down and past Stalock. That tally would send Stalock to the bench in favor of Tyson Sexsmith.
Worcester got some life after the goaltender change as Frazer McLaren got his team within two at 12:28 of the period. Trevor Kell allowed the Devils to retake their three-goal cushion when he notched his first of the season for Lowell with 1:36 left in the frame.
Ben Walter put the Devils up, 6-2, at 1:29 of the third as his centering pass for Zharkov deflected off the defenseman and over Sexsmith. Recalled from Trenton (ECHL) this morning, Jeff Prough got into the act as well, recording his first of the year for Lowell at 6:02 on a turnaround shot from the hashmarks.
Logan Couture scored with under four minutes remaining to complete the scoring. Frazee gathered his second win in a row with 30 saves on 33 shots.
The Lowell Devils are back at the Tsongas Arena on Friday, November 13 to again battle the Worcester Sharks at 7:00PM. For more information, contact the Devils at (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or visit lowelldevilshockey.com.
