River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - Desperate for some starting pitching, the Rascals went to the well again and signed Tony Marsala to the fifth River City contract of his career, and he delivered with a 6-3 win over the Evansville Otters to begin a three game series Friday night.

Marsala (1-0) walked the first batter he faced and quickly found himself down 1-0 but the Rascal offense responded in their half of the first, plating a run on a two-out single that scored Eric Williams after he led off the inning with a walk and found his way to third on a groundout and stolen base.

The Rascals (11-2) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second when two throwing errors by Evansville led to runs from Jeremy Synan and Chris Andreas who started the frame with a double and single respectively.

The Otters (5-8) closed the gap to 3-2 in the third and tied the game at three with three-straight singles in the fifth.

Charlie Lisk lauched a homerun to left-center with one out in the home half of the fifth for a 4-3 lead before Nick Kennedy inherited runners and second and third with one out in the sixth but got out of it with an inning ending double play before pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth to set up a save situation for Dustin Umberger.

River City added two runs on three hits, the last a two-out double from Bobby Burk that scored Gerardo Avila and Synan for a 6-3 lead before Umberger picked up his sixth save by striking out two in the ninth while touching 94 mph with his fastball.

The Rascals and Otters square off in game two Saturday as Evansville sends Bryce Morrow (2-0, 1.39) to the mound against River City starter Keli'i Zablan (1-0, 2.84).

-this was the 17th win in Tony Marsala's career
