Ogden Raptors News Release
The Ogden Raptors won their fifth one-run game in their last six with a 2-1 win over the Grand Junction Rockies Thursday night at Suplizio Field.
The pitching shined for both teams. Raptors starter Jeff Brigham pitched his best start of his career. In four shutout innings, the right-hander struck out a career-high eight batters and allowed just two hits.
Rockies starter James Lomangino pitched 6.1 innings and gave up just one run on three hits and struck out five. He had faced the minimum number of hitters through six innings. Lomangino was tagged with the tough-luck loss.
The win went to Raptors reliever Bernardo Reyes. In 2.1 innings, he allowed one run on four hits to earn his second win.
The Raptors broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning. Billy Bereszniewicz started the inning with a double down the left-field line. After a flyout moved Bereszniewicz to third, Julian Leon hit a sacrifice fly to right to put Ogden up 1-0.
The Raptors added another on an unearned run in the eighth. With one out, Colin Hering singled to center and moved to second on a passed ball. Then, Jimmy Allen hit a grounder to third. Kevin Padlo threw out Allen at first and Hering raced for third. First baseman Roberto Ramos' throw to third got by Padlo, and Hering scored on the error to give the Raptors a 2-0 lead.
The Rockies got on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Yonathan Daza singled to second base and then stole second to start the eighth. After a strikeout and a walk, Randy Reyes flied to center to move Daza to third. Luis Castro then singled to right field to score Daza and put runners on the corners. Flamion relieved Bernardo Reyes and struck out Ramos to end the threat.
Flamion then pitched a scoreless ninth to convert his third save.
The Raptors and Rockies return to Lindquist Field for a two-game series, starting Friday. J.D. Underwood gets the ball for Ogden against lefty Sam Howard. Game starts at 7:00.
