OREM, UT -- The Chukars needed a win desperately to keep the playoff hopes realistic. The team played far from the best it has played this season. Fortunately, it was good enough to beat a weak hitting Orem team. Chukars take advantage of an Owlz mistake to come away with a 3-1 victory.

Idaho Falls (34-34, 15-16) struggled with runners in scoring position, going 0 for 7 in that situation. the squad didn't have any runs batted in for the entire ballgame. The Chukars scored three runs in the third inning. The first came on a wild pitch from Michael Bolaski (5-3) that scored Brandon Downes with Robert Pehl at the plate. Pehl then grounded a ball back to Bolaski, who threw an accurate ball to first. Ryan Seiz dropped the ball, allowing two more Greybirds to score.

Kyle Zimmer pitched a rehab first inning for Idaho Falls and retired the side in order. Jake Newberry (5-4) entered in the second inning, and was on his game. The right-hander pitched six innings of one run baseball. Newberry scattered five hits along those frames. Andrew Daniel singled in Raul Lineras in the sixth inning for the only Orem run.

Sam Lewis picked up his third save by locking down the eighth and ninth innings. Orem was unable to notch a hit off of the right-hander. After Lewis struck out Fran Whitten to end the eighth, it marked a stretch of 13 of the past 16 outs recorded via strikeout.

The Chukars move to 3.5 games back of the Ogden Raptors (three games back of Grand Junction) with eight games left to play. Idaho Falls plays game six of eight in a row against Orem tomorrow at Melaleuca Field.
