Brockton Rox News Release
Ottawa, ON (August 10, 2008) - Ottawa Rapidz 3B Jake Daubert will play one of his final professional games against the Brockton Rox when the Rapidz come to Campanelli Stadium in the final week of the season, but one of his last memories from his professional career will be Sunday's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rapidz a 6-5 comeback win over the Rox.
Daubert spent four and half seasons with the Rox, opening the gates at Campanelli Stadium in 2002 and winning a Northeast League Championship in 2003. His single in the bottom of the ninth off Rox closer RHP Jerry Dunn plated LF Jereme Milons from second base with the game winning run.
It was the second comeback of the game as Brockton had already clawed out of a 4-1 deficit. The Rox were led by LF Dennis Abreu who hit two home runs in the game and drove in four runs including a sacrifice fly in the seventh which gave the Rox a 5-4 lead.
Starter RHP Stevie Delabar left the game before the third inning began, throwing only a couple of warm up pitches before he left the mound. RHP Greg Bunn entered and allowed four runs in 1.2 innings. The bullpen combination of RHP Keith Noe, and RHP Matt Zachary combined for 4.1 innings of scoreless relief and allowed Abreu and the offense to capture the lead.
Dunn took his third loss of the season, but did not allow an earned run in the ninth inning. He walked the leadoff man, CF Jared Lemieux, who moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Then Milons reached on an error by 3B Phillip Cuadrado to put runners on the corners with one out. The dangerous DH Jabe Bergeron fouled out to the pitcher for the second out before C Kyle Geiger tied the game on an RIB single to right field. That single put runners on second and third base with two outs for Daubert. It was just the second blown save in 19 attempts for Dunn this season.
Brockton won two of the three games with the Rapidz and will have Monday off before heading to Quebec City to begin a three-game series with the Capitales. Tuesday's game one starter is scheduled to be RHP James Baker for the Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
