Daubert Saves the Day for Rapidz

OTTAWA, ON) Sunday, August 10, 2008 - Jake Daubert saved the day for the Ottawa Rapidz hitting a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Rapidz a 6-5 win over the Brockton Rox.

Jared Lemieux and Jose de los Santos both walked to start the bottom of the third inning. Jereme Milons followed at the plate and hit his sixth homerun of the season, which landed on Coventry Road over the left field fence for a 3-0 Rapidz lead.

Dennis Abreu hit his ninth homerun with one out in the top of the fourth to make it a 3-1 game. The Rapidz added a run in the bottom of the inning, when de los Santos singled to score Nate Hall.

Abreu struck again in the top of the fourth adding a two-run shot for his 10th of the season, his second of the afternoon. The Rox scored twice again in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead.

Lemieux walked to lead off the bottom of the ninth and advanced to second on a sacrifice by de los Santos. Lemieux then reached third on an error by the third baseman thanks to a grounder by Milons. Kyle Geiger tied the game with a RBI-single before Daubert followed suit to end the game.

Angelo Burrows (2-1) pitched three innings in relief for Fraser Robinson to earn the win. Robinson had a quality start for the Rapidz, pitching six innings, allowing three runs (all earned), on eight hits, no walks and three strikeouts. He has not allowed a walk in his last four starts, pitching 30.2 innings since his last batter walked. Gerald Dunn (1-3) blew a save opportunity to suffer the loss.

After a day off on Monday, the Rapidz are going back on the road, going to Augusta, NJ to face the Sussex Skyhawks and to Quebec City to take on the Capitales.
