Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER - Chris Colabello's (pictured) three-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 5-5 tie, propelling the Tornadoes to a come-from-behind 9-5 win over the Quebec Capitales on Sunday afternoon at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

The Capitales committed five errors which led to seven unearned runs. Shaun McNamara hung tough after giving up five runs in the first three innings. He shut down Quebec the rest of the way, finishing the afternoon with seven innings pitched while giving up six hits on five walks and three strikeouts. Anthony Sullivan hurled a scoreless eighth inning for his second win of the season. Colabello was the offensive hero with his 3-for-5 effort, including the go-ahead hit. In the process, he extended his league-leading RBI total to 63 while also setting both a new career-high and a new franchise record for RBIs in a single season with 21 games still left to play. Francisco Caraballo (2-for-4) contributed a home run with two RBIs while Scott Grimes and Mike MacMillan also had multiple-hit afternoons.

Quebec got on the board in the first inning when Eddie Lantigua's grounder got through the right side, scoring Goefrey Tomlinson from second to make it 1-0.

Worcester converted a Jean-Michel Rachon-Salvas error into three unearned runs in the bottom of the second. Grimes drove in the first two with a double that found the left-center field gap, scoring Josh Farkes from second base and Jeff LaHair all the way from first. Omar Pena followed with an RBI single up the middle for the 3-1 lead.

It didn't take long for Quebec to retake the lead as they loaded the bases on walks before Patrick Deschenes cleared them with a line drive grand slam to centerfield to make it 5-3.

Both pitchers settled down until Quebec reliever Erick Nadon served up a solo home run to Caraballo in the seventh which pulled Worcester within one at 5-4.

The Tornadoes took advantage of two errors in the eighth to bat around while crossing the plate five times to open up a four-run lead. MacMillan led off the rally with a double to left field. Farkes then laid down a successful bunt and reached first when pitcher Felix Arellan bobbled the ball. With runners at the corners, LaHair hit a double-play ball to second base, but Josh Colafemina couldn't record an out leading to the tying run crossing the plate. Worcester loaded the bases and Colabello came up with the back-breaker, a three-run triple down the right field line to give the Tornadoes the 8-5 lead. Caraballo tacked on the ninth run via an RBI groundout for the 9-5 final.

The Tornadoes close out the series and homestand on Monday night which is Guaranteed Win Night! It is a matchup of aces as LHP Tom Cochran takes the hill for Worcester opposite of Quebec's RHP Luis Valdez.
