Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - *The Sussex Skyhawks used a four run fifth inning to propel them to a 6-3 victory and a series sweep of the New Jersey Jackals on Sunday afternoon at Skylands Park.
With the win, the Skyhawks are 8-2 over their last 10 games and have won five in a row.
As the rain came down in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score 2-2, first baseman Matt Weston drilled a solo home run to right field to give the Skyhawks a 3-2 lead. Sussex added another run when designated hitter Mario Delgado scored from third on a wild pitch. After an hour rain delay, Sussex continued the inning and scored two more runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Sussex's Gary Galvez threw five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits to pick up the win. Roger Lincoln threw four innings of relief after the rain delay to pick up the save. New Jersey's Ted Serro gave up four runs (two earned) over four innings and was tagged with the loss.
The Jackals travel to Nashua for a three game series with Nashua, beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The Skyhawks return to action at Skylands Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the beginning of a three game series against Ottawa.
