Rapidz rock Rox in front of big home crowd

(OTTAWA, ON) June 29, 2008 - The Rapidz evened the series at one against the Brockton Rox with a commanding 9-2 win in front of a season high crowd of 4,390 at Rapidz Stadium.

For the second straight game, the Rox opened the scoring with a run in the first. Dominic Ramos singled, Jud Thigpen was then hit by a pitch and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Phillip Cuadrado scored Ramos from third with a deep fly ball to right field to take a 1-0 lead.

The Rox continued in the top of the second, Melvin Falu got aboard with a walk, stole second reached third on an error, then scored on an RBI single by Josh Vander Hey for a 2-0 Rox lead after two innings.

The Rapidz responded in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to tie the game. Jabe Bergeron lead off with a single to extend his on-base streak to 18 games. Jereme Milons then drove in the run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch by Brockton starter Chris McDonough.

The Rapidz scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, taking the lead for the first time in the series. The Rapidz added another in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-2 lead after five innings.

The Rapidz extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Juan Infante was hit by a pitch, Jose Salas then took John Boker deep for his first homerun as a Rapid extending the Ottawa lead to 6-2 after six.

With three consecutive singles by the Rapidz, two RBI sacrifice fly balls and an RBI single, the Rapidz added three more runs for a 9-2 lead after seven innings.

For the Rapidz, Greg Bunn (1-2) earned his first win of the season pitching seven innings, allowing only two runs (one earned) on six hits, two walks and striking out six. Credited with his second loss of the season, Brockton's Chris McDonough (4-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with one walk and one strikeout in 4.1 innings of work.

Tomorrow's final game of the series will be "Canada Day Eve" at Rapidz Stadium and will showcase North Gower, ON native Fraser Robinson (2-2, 3.83 ERA) verses Wayne Lundgren (2-2, 5.23 ERA) for Rox.
