
Rapidz earn first series sweep

With their first ever series sweep in the crosshairs, the Ottawa Rapidz took on the New Jersey Jackals in front of 2,006 fans at Rapidz Stadium. The Rapidz made no mistake securing the series sweep, tying a season-high with 18 runs on a season-high 20 hits for an 18-7 win. Jabe Bergeron lead the way for the Rapidz going 4-4, with three RBI and four runs scored.
The Rapidz opened the game scoring a run in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly by Jabe Bergeron. Scotty McKnight hit another sacrifice fly and Juan Infante hit an RBI double to score the runs in the second inning for a 3-1 Rapidz lead after two innings.
In the second inning the Jackals scored their first run thanks to an RBI double by second baseman Marcos Rodriquez.
The Rapidz added two more in the third, with Kyle Geiger hitting an RBI double, extending his hit streak to 12 games. Pete Pirman hit an RBI single to chase the Jackals starter Jorge Acosta from the game resulting in a 5-1 Rapidz lead.
The Jackals responded with two in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to cut the Rapidz lead to 5-4.
The Rapidz put the game out of reach scoring two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh and four more in the eighth inning for an 18-4 lead after seven innings. The Jackals added three in the ninth but it was not enough as the Rapidz won by a commanding score of 18-7.
Ottawa's Noel Baca III (2-7) is credited with the win, allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts through 6.1 innings. Jorge Acosta (0-2) is credited with the loss for the Jackals allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits with two walks and one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
The Rapidz begin a seven game road trip tomorrow in Atlantic City with Adam Hawes (3-7, 6.22 ERA) for the Rapidz against J.C. Huguet (7-2, 4.76) for the Surf. The Rapidz return home August 4 for a seven-game home stand against the Sussex Skyhawks and Brockton Rox, which will feature "Break the Attendance Record Night" presented by East Side Mario's.
