In the loss, Jackals 3B Chris Kelly had a good day at the plate, going 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI. New Jersey DH Luke Allen also collected three hits in five at bats.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Rapidz loaded the bases with no outs against Jackals starter Jorge Acosta, but Ottawa managed only one run on a sacrifice fly by 1B Jabe Bergeron as Ottawa took a 1-0 lead. However, the Jackals tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second on an RBI double by RF Marcos Rodriguez off the wall in deep right center.
In the bottom of the second, the Rapidz first two hitters, CF Pete Pirman and DH Nate Hall, each reached on walks. RF Scotty McKnight then lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Pirman, before an RBI double by SS Juan Infante gave Ottawa a 3-1 advantage. Then in the bottom of the third, Ottawa ran Acosta from the game after scoring two more runs on a run-scoring groundout by LF Jereme Milons and an RBI single by Pirman though a drawn-in Jackals infield as the Rapidz extended their lead to 5-1.
The Jackals then came clawing back, beginning with a two-run home run by 1B Juan Tejeda in the top of the fourth inning that cut the deficit to 5-3. In the fifth, Kelly doubled off the top of the wall in center to plate Allen and pull the Jackals within one at 5-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Rapidz plated two unearned runs against reliever Michael Vicaro to take a three run lead. Milons led off by reaching on an error on a ground ball by Tejeda. After Hall walked, an Infante two-run single extended the lead to 7-4. In the sixth, The Rapidz blew the game open as reliever Brandon Martin started the frame and allowed back-to-back singles to Daubert and Bergeron before an RBI double by Geiger gave Ottawa an 8-4 lead. After a two-run double by Hall made it a 10-4 ballgame, the Rapidz pushed their eleventh run of the contest across when RF Scotty McKnight laced a single to center field, which Zack Smithlin mishandled, enabling Hall to score. In the bottom of the seventh, Ottawa added three more runs to take a 14-4 lead. The Rapidz closed out their scoring with four additional runs off New Jersey's Tommy Murphy in the bottom of the eighth to make it an 18-4 score.
