
Yaconetti's Sac Fly In 11th Gives Skyhawks 4-3 Win

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Sussex third baseman Jay Yaconetti's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eleventh scored Matt Weston from third, and allowed the Skyhawks to escape with a 4-3 win over the Brockton Rox on Sunday afternoon at Skylands Park.
The win enabled Sussex (4-8) to avoid a series sweep and also ended Brockton's seven game winning streak.

Sussex trailed for most of the game, but was able to tie it in the bottom of the eighth. Khalid Afify and Matt Petrusek threw four scoreless innings of relief to give the Sussex offense a chance to pick up the win. Petrusek (5-1) earned the win after pitching the top of the eleventh.

The Skyhawks manufactured the winning run with textbook baseball in the eleventh. Weston led off the inning with a walk. Chris Brown then followed with an opposite field single past the second baseman and into right field, sending Weston to third. Yaconetti then lofted a fly ball deep enough to center to score Weston from third with the winning run.

Both starting pitchers were cruising through the first seven innings. Brockton starter Steve Delabar (3-2) gave up just two runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings. Sussex's Justin Knoff (1-0) gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings of work. He walked two and struck out seven.
Melvin Falu snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the third with a two run home run to give the Rox a 3-1 lead. Delabar and Knoff then traded scoreless innings until the bottom of the seventh when Sussex shortstop Kevin Rios blasted a solo home run to left to make it a 3-2 game in favor of Brockton.
Sussex tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when left fielder Ryan Crespi led off with an infield single. Jorge Moreno then doubled, scoring Crespi from first to make it a 3-3 game.
The Skyhawks return to action at Skylands Park on Monday against Worcester. The teams will play a doubleheader, with the first game a continuation of a suspended game. The first game will start at 5 p.m., and the second game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
