Rapidz can't hold lead, fall in extras

June 1, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Voyageurs News Release

Trailing 4-2 New Jersey rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings before a walkoff single in the 11th inning capped a 5-4 win. Ottawa built a 4-2 advantage with a three run fourth inning highlighted by C Kyle Geiger's second homerun of the year, a three run blast to left. But in the ninth after two were out, RF Andrew Larson walked and LF Francisco Leandro doubled to put two New Jersey runners in scoring position. DH Scott White then singled to drive both men in and tie the game. Larson got things started again in the 11th inning with his second walk before Leandro singled to put men and first and second. C Craig Maddox played the role of hero as he smacked a solid single back through the middle to plate Larson with the winning run.

Before the game the Rapidz announced two player moves. In the first time, they placed pitcher Greg Bunn on the disabled list as of May 31. Bunn pulled his hamstring during Friday's game. His status will be re-evaluated on a day to day basis. The Rapidz also traded for Argimiro Jose Guanchez, acquired from the Quebec City Capitales for a player to be named later. The left-handed pitcher comes to Ottawa after two years spent with the Venezuelan National Baseball Team. The 6', 170-pound LS-4 is a former prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization. He played in their minors with them from 2002 to 2005.
