Colorado Rapids News Release
The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday that the club has promoted Paul Bravo to the position of Vice President of Soccer Operations and Technical Director, and signed him to a three-year contract extension.
"Since the day Paul rejoined this club, his work ethic, character, professionalism and results have brought our club to new heights, and we're thrilled to sign him to a new contract and expand his role," said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. "His leadership has seen us establish a style of play, identity and strategy for growth that will sustain the club for years to come, building talent and depth from youth levels through to our first team. This is an exciting period for the club, and Paul's work has played a huge role in that."
"I have always loved being here in Colorado and at the Rapids, and now is an especially exciting time for the club," said Bravo. "I am very appreciative to the Kroenke family and everyone at the company for their support, and I consider it a true honor to receive this promotion. We're all working hard on this project and looking forward to more growth in the next few years."
As the Vice President of Soccer Operations and Technical Director, Bravo remains in charge of all aspects of the first team, Rapids Academy, partnerships with the Rapids adidas Alliance clubs, all scouting domestically and internationally, and other responsibilities that will continue to grow the club. He was first named the club's Technical Director at the start of 2009, and then won MLS Cup in 2010 with a squad which included several key acquisitions that he helped bring to the club.
Bravo spearheaded the coaching searches that led to the hiring of Oscar Pareja in 2012 and Pablo Mastroeni in 2014, as well as a transition in the club's style of play into a more attacking game, which is now in use through the club's Academy teams. In 2013, the Rapids Under-16 team finished third out of the 80 top youth clubs in the country, topping the Under-18 squad's mark of finishing 6th nationally, accomplished in 2012.
One of four members of the Rapids' Gallery of Honor, Bravo has a long and distinguished history with the club, having played the final five of his six MLS seasons with Colorado, scoring 39 goals and adding 22 assists in 135 regular season matches. After finishing his playing career, he served two years as an Assistant Coach for the Rapids. He was an assistant coach for UCLA from 2004-2005 and the LA Galaxy from 2006-2008, before first becoming a technical director with the Galaxy from 2007-2009.
The Rapids will begin their 19th season in Major League Soccer this Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. MT at the New York Red Bulls, with a live broadcast on Altitude with the commentary team of Richard Fleming and Marcelo Balboa. The club's home opener is Saturday, March 22 at 4 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park against the Portland Timbers.
