EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Colorado Rapids dropped a 2-1 decision Saturday night against the MetroStars at Giants Stadium in the team's first away game of the 2003 season.

It was the Rapids who grabbed a 1-0 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first half when a through ball from Mark Chung found Liberian international Zizi Roberts on the left side of the penalty area. After his first touch, the striker was left with a difficult angle out wide, but was still able to get a shot on goal. His low left-footed shot spun off Metros goalkeeper Tim Howard's chest and trickled over the goal line. The effort by Roberts was the second of three first half shots attempted by the Rapids.

The MetroStars Craig Ziadie's cross in the 51st minute set up the game-tying goal when he found the head of teammate Clint Mathis, who nodded a close range shot past goalkeeper Scott Vallow for his first goal of the season. Appearing in the 43rd match of his MLS career, Ziadie also netted his first career goal in the 62nd minute. Dribbling along the top of the penalty area, Ziadie unleashed a 16-yard shot that skipped past Vallow and gave the Metros a 2-1 advantage they would not relinquish.

In the dying moments of the match, Chris Henderson unleashed a 22-yard shot that forced Howard to make a diving save. The MetroStars keeper was unable to hold on to the ball that bounced freely in the heart of the home team's area. Roberts, who was following the flow of play, got his right foot on the ball as the referee whistle for a foul against the Rapids striker, stopping the play.

The Rapids return to action this Saturday, May 10th when they travel to central Ohio to face the Columbus Crew in a match televised live on Fox Sports Net at 5:30 PM MT.
