Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas were stymied in the third period, as they fell 4-3 to the Rapid City Rush Saturday night.
Not even two minutes into the first period, fan favorite Chris Cloud snapped his shot five-hole on Rapid City goaltender Danny Battochio for his fifth goal of the season. Rapid City countered when captain Luke Fritshaw blasted a drive from the far circle with less than two minutes remaining in the period to tie the game at one. Jason Beeman and Colt King added a spirited fight, as Amarillo and Rapid City went to their locker rooms tied at one after one period of play.
After surrendering three Rapid City goals in the first 5:31 of the second period, Amarillo found a way to pull within one, with goals from rookie defenseman Andy Brennan and veteran Gordon Bell. With Amarillo trailing by two markers and with the man-advantage, Bell stuffed his shot short-side on Battochio for his fifth goal of the season. Rapid City 4 Amarillo 3 after two periods of play.
Both teams did not score in the third and Amarillo went shorthanded for the final five minutes of regulation. The Gorillas could not covert, falling 4-3.
Amarillo's power-play unit has collected 9 goals in their last 6 home tilts...With his goal and assist, Andy Brennan is now tied with Gorillas defenseman Jake Obermeyer for the most points earned by a first-year rear guard in the CHL...Gordon Bell has points in 3 of his last 4 home contests.
