
Jacks Hold On for 4-3 Win Over Killer Bees

(McAllen, TX) -- Three second period goals by the Odessa Jackalopes were enough to hold up against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Saturday night at Dodge Arena for a 4-3 win. Dominic Leveille was credited with the game-winner.
Leveille's goal was part of a five-goal second period between the two teams that started when the Bees' Aaron Lee tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal at 8:03. Less than two minutes later, Odessa answered back on a goal from Kory Karlander as he trailed into the offensive zone then buried the puck on a wrist shot from the top of the circles. Rio Grande Valley tied the game once more on a wrist shot from the right circle by Daymen Rycroft at 11:11. Alex Dunn countered for Odessa on a breakaway goal at 15:00 after exiting the penalty box and receiving the puck at center ice from Jean Bourbeau. Dominic Leveille's game-winner made it a 4-2 lead for Odessa at the time after he bounded the puck off the back of goaltender Wylie Rogers and in the net from the left-wing corner to cap the period's scoring. Four the period's five goals were scored in a seven-minute span.
Odessa's Phil Plante opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period at 10:56. Plante's slap shot from the top of the right circle deflected of the body of a Killer Bees player in front of the net and past Wylie Rogers for a 1-0 lead. It was his seventh of the season. Bourbeau was credited with the assist.
Rio Grande Valley closed the gap to 4-3 when Grant Goeckner-Zeller centered a puck from the left-wing corner that bounced off the skate of Odessa goalie, Juha Toivonen, and in the net at 8:19.
The Jackalopes will spend next week in Arizona for three games against the Sundogs starting on Wednesday at 8:05 PM at Tim's Toyota Center. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
