ALLEN, Texas - Allen handed the Wichita Thunder their twenty-first straight loss in a 4-2 win for the Americans. The win advanced Allen's record to 24-9-2 (50 points).

Wichita's Joel Hanson struck first to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. The right winger beat Charlie Effinger top shelf on the power play at 7:13. American forward Colton Yellow Horn tied the game at one after putting Jarret Lukin's rebound in the net.

The second period was full of scoring opportunities for both teams, but Brad Thompson gave the Thunder a 2-1 advantage at 15:06 on the power play. The Americans were not down for long, though. 26 seconds later, defenseman Kurtis Dulle slipped the puck past Thunder netminder Ian Keserich after a beautiful pass from Jarret Lukin. The teams headed into the second intermission deadlocked 2-2.

Less than three minutes into the third, Nino Musitelli cut loose on a breakaway and lit the lamp on a backhand shot to give the Americans their first lead of the game. The goal ended up the game winner, as the Americans held on to their one-goal advantage. Allen held off the Thunder's last-minute surge that involved a flurry of activity in the Americans' defensive end. Justin Bowers eventually was able to clear the puck and secured an Allen victory with an empty-net goal with one second left.

Effinger made 22 saves in the game, and the Americans fired off 44 shots.

Tonight's game was broadcast live on Time Warner Cable's Metro Sports Channel 185 and can be accessed on Metro Sports On Demand Channel 634.

The Americans host the Arizona Sundogs Monday, Jan. 18, at 1:00 p.m. in Allen's first Kids Appreciation Day.
