Rapid City, S.D. (December 4, 2010) - Scott Wray scored what proved to be the game winning goal early in the third period as the host Rapid City Rush defeated the Quad City Mallards 2-1 Saturday night.
Wray pounced on loose puck in the slot to snap a 1-1 tie at 1:20 of the third.
Wray's goal gave the Rush what was its first lead of the night. The Mallards' Phil Axtell had opened the scoring in a goalmouth scramble at 1:02 of the first period. The Rush tied the game at one when Jay Birnie buried a rebound from the right wing circle at 9:59 of the first.
A scoreless second period set the stage for Wray's decisive contribution early in the third.
The Mallards return to action on the road next Friday against the Missouri Mavericks. After visiting the Bloomington PrairieThunder next Saturday the Mallards will head home to collide with the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday, December 12 at 4:05 p.m. December 12 is the Mallards' next Family Day presented by APAC Customer Services, Inc., and Mix 96. Fans can purchase four tickets to that game anywhere in the i wireless Center, four beverages and four hot dogs all for just $34.
Fans attending the December 12 game will also have the chance to join their favorite Mallards on the ice. A postgame skate with the Mallards follows each Sunday home contest this season. This will be the third of four Mallards Family Days.
In addition, fans are invited to join the Mallards for a postgame event at Chili's in Davenport following the December 12 contest. Chili's Iocated at 4020 East 53rd Street.
Tickets for Family Day- and all Mallards regular season home games- are available in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. Family day tickets can also be purchased online at http://myqcmallards.com/tickets/familyday/ . The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days other than Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the first period. On Sundays on which the Mallards play at home the ticket office will be open from 1:00 p.m. until the end of the first period.
