HIDALGO, Texas- The Arizona Sundogs (8-9-3) scored just 1:16 into their Saturday night game with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-11-2) and never looked back claiming a 7-1 victory. After one period of play the score was only 1-0 after Joey Sides scored his first goal of the game with the assists to Jason Visser and Billy Bezeau. In the second period Arizona took true control the game exploding for four goals.
The Bees took three penalties in a span of just over two minutes including a double-minor to Kyle Radke. As a result the Bees would spend more than two minutes short two players all while Arizona netted a pair of goals. Jason Visser and Luke Erickson scored the five-on-three.
After the first two periods the Killer Bees brought Dan Rosen in to replace Juliano Pagliero. Pagliero made 13 saves in the first two periods on 18 shots. Rosen would turn away five shots
In the third period the Sundogs kept the pressure on with their sixth goal of the game, a shorthanded strike at 3:16 of the third. It was the second goal of the game for Joey Sides.
The Bees would get one back at 6:58 when Darcy Campbell scored his eighth goal of the season on the power-play. Brett Wilson found the streaking Campbell after receiving the puck from Nick Sucharski who picked up the second assist.
The goal brought an onslaught of Teddy Bears to the ice on the annual Teddy Bear toss night with all donations going to the Salvation Army.
Arizona would add one more goal in the third to bring their total to seven goals at the 14:02 mark.
The Killer Bees will have a week to practice before hosting the Allen Americans on Friday night at State Farm Arena. On Saturday night the Bees get their third chance at the Arizona Sundogs at 7:30 p.m.
