Bucks Stun Allen in Shootout 5-4

ALLEN, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Allen Americans 5-4 in a shootout Saturday night at the Allen Event Center. The Bucks finish their three-games in three nights stretch 2-1 and improve to 8-9-3 (19 points) on the season.

Darryl Smith scored the only goal in the shootout while Torrie Jung stopped all five Americans shootout attempts to lead the Bucks to their first-ever regular season win in Allen (1-2-1).

Jung (5-5-1) stopped 31 of 35 shots he faced in the game while Hans Benson scored two goals to help Laredo improve to 4-4-2 on the road.

The Bucks scored first for the second straight night as they cashed in on a power-play just 5:57 into the first period. Benson took a laser feed from Jeff Bes and stuffed the puck in from the right side of the crease to pick up his second goal of the season.

The Americans (16-5-1) would tie the game at 1-1 just 12 seconds later when Judd Blackwater jammed in a pass from Bruce Graham right in front of the net to pick up his 10th of the campaign.

Laredo outshot Allen 8-7 in the first period.

The second period was back and forth as the Bucks gave up two goals in the first 6:54 of frame only to battle back for three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Allen took a 2-1 lead just 2:29 into the second when Brian McMillan scored from the slot to pick up his first of the season.

The Americans would increase their lead to 3-1 at the 6:54 mark of the period when Dave Bonk scored from the bottom of the left circle on a broken play.

Laredo would strike for three straight goals to end the period and take a 4-3 lead.

Ryan Lehr cut Allen's lead to 3-2 at the 7:27 mark when he scored off of Neil Trimm's face off win from the top of the left circle. The tally was Lehr's third of the season.

Benson would tie the game at 3-3 just 37 seconds later when he scored his second of the night from the bottom of the left circle off of an Americans turnover.

Laredo would take a 4-3 lead with just 1:34 left in the second period when Chris Pontes picked up a loose puck in the offensive end and scored on a slap shot from the top of the right circle. The strike was Pontes' first goal for the Bucks since being called up from Knoxville (SPHL) Wednesday.

The Bucks outshot the Americans 10-9 in the second period.

Colton Yellow Horn tied the game at 4-4 just 2:07 into the third period when he scored on a long rebound from the slot. Laredo was outshot 13-4 in the third period.

Neither team scored in overtime as the Bucks were outshot 6-2.

The Bucks were outshot in the game 35-25.

The Bucks return home to start a three-game home stand on Tuesday (Dec 7th) against Texas at Laredo Energy Arena.
