February 27, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers headed to the Sleeman Centre in Guelph to take on the Guelph Storm in Sunday afternoon hockey action. This is the seventh time these teams have met in the 2021-22 regular season, with a series record tied at 3.

With recent capacity increases to 50%, it was exciting to see so many members of RTown cheering on the Rangers from inside the home of the Guelph Storm.

OHL newcomer, Marcus Vandenberg got his fifth start in net today, and lets in two early goals to bring the score to 2-0 for the Storm in less than six minutes of play. Reid Valade gets the Rangers on the board with a beauty goal, assisted by birthday boy, Roman Schmidt and Joseph Serpa, but Guelph scores twice again in the period to bring the score to 4-1 for the Storm. Mike Petizian scores with less than 2 minutes of play left in the period, making the score 4-2 after 20 minutes of play.

After Guelph scores an early goal in the second period, Head Coach and General Manager, Mike McKenzie sends goaltender, Pavel Cajan, to defend the Rangers net. Guelph gets another goal on the power play, bringing the score to 6-2 for the Storm with just less than 9 minutes left in the period.

Mitchell Martin gets a goal early in the third period, but this goal is followed up by another Guelph goal, bringing the final score to 7-3.

We look to bounce back on Wednesday in Owen Sound against the Attack at 7pm.

The Rangers would like to thank #RTown for their support, and look forward to seeing more fans (100% capacity) for our next home game on Friday, March 4th when we take on the Saginaw Spirit. This will be our 26th Annual Don Cameron Potato Night. Cash donations and potatoes will be collected upon entry. Tickets are available at kwtickets.ca.
