Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Kitchener Rangers hosted The Flint Firebirds at The Aud in their first of two games this weekend. We were looking to build off our win on Tuesday. Marcus Vandenberg played in his first official OHL debut.

Midway through the 1st period, Flint was given a powerplay opportunity, but they were unsuccessful. With four minutes remaining, Flint capitalized on a powerplay, grabbing the 1-0 lead. We were looking to tie the game in the 2nd.

Halfway through the period, both teams had exchanged chances but neither could find the back of the net. Later, Flint's Tag Bertuzzi scored on a breakaway, extending their lead to 2-0. With just under two minutes left in the 2nd, Jacob LeBlanc wired one from the blue line to get the Rangers on the board, making it 2-1 Firebirds. We wanted to continue the pressure on Flint in the 3rd.

Early in the period, Flint scored, making it 3-1. They would another, extending their lead to 4-1. With two minutes left in the third, Joseph Serpa scored shorthanded to cut Flint's lead in half, 4-2. Reid Valade was awarded a penalty shot with a minute left but was unable to score. Flint added an empty-net goal to make it 5-2.

Flint took this contest by a final score of 5-2. We looked to get back in the win column in tomorrow's game.

Our next game is Saturday, February 5th, at 4:00 pm in London.
