Ottawa 67's News Release
Despite seeing their 4-0 lead evaporate late in the third, the Ottawa 67's hung on for a 4-3 road win over the Niagara IceDogs.
Will Gerrior got the Barber Poles starter, before Teddy Sawyer, Thomas Johnston, and Luca Pinelli each heard their names called. Max Donoso made 25 saves, for his fourth win in his last five starts.
The Barber Poles struck first, on the powerplay 13:26 in. A crisp passing play saw Anthony Costantini find Chris Barlas, who sent the puck cross-ice to Gerrior, and the rookie sniped his third of the season top shelf, for a 1-0 Ottawa read.
Just 43 seconds later, the 67's were again rewarded for stellar puck movement in the offensive zone. Off a faceoff to the left of Josh Rosenzweig, Gerrior pushed the puck to Ranvir Gill-Shane at the point, and he sent a "D-to-D" pass to Sawyer. The Columbus, Ohio native fired a quick shot, and it found its way through for his second in as many games.
Keeping the pedal to the metal, the 67's found their insurance marker inside the first five minutes of the second frame. The Johnston-Johnston-Sirman line came through once again, all collecting a point on the marker, as Thomas Johnston streaked in on a breakaway, and despite being tripped, chipped the puck one-handed past Rosenzweig, to give the Barber Poles a 3-0 advantage.
In the third, Ottawa weathered an early storm from the IceDogs, and were rewarded with a four-goal lead. Down low, in front of the Niagara, goal, Pinelli picked the pocket of Landon Cato, and his quick back-hander found the back of the goal, for his seventh of the season.
The IceDogs would end the shutout bid, thanks to a pair of late powerplay goals from Liam Van Loon, and Brice Cooke, respectively. Former Barber Pole Brenden Sirizzotti made it a one-goal game with 1:27 to play, but Niagara's comeback effort would be for naught, and the 67's earned a 4-3 win.
Game Notes:
Luca Pinelli has seven points in his last six games.
Thomas Johnston has five points in as many games.
Alex Johnston has nine points in his last eight games.
Will Gerrior earned his first career multi-point game, with a goal and an assist.
Up Next: The Barber Poles return home, Sunday, to face these same IceDogs at 2pm ET.
