The Kitchener Rangers suffered their first loss of the exhibition season on Friday night, falling 3-2 in a shootout to the Niagara IceDogs. Mike Davies and Mason Kohn each recorded goals for the Rangers in the loss.

The Rangers opened the scoring at the 12 minute mark of the first period. Sophomore winger Mike Davies beat newly-signed IceDogs goaltender MacKenzie Savard for his first of the exhibition season. Helpers on the play were credited to James Mense-Dietrich and Gustaf Franzen.

Kitchener led shots on goal 9-8 after 20 minutes of play.

The IceDogs hit the scoreboard near the halfway point, with Mikkel Aagaard recording his first OHL goal, snapping a shot past Rangers starter Matthew Greenfield. The Danish import's power play tally was assisted by Graham Knott and Russian defenceman Aleksandar Mikulovich.

A late goal from Johnny Corneil pulled Niagara even before the second intermission. The second-year centre's goal came unassisted at 18:25.

The Rangers continued to out-shoot the IceDogs in the middle frame by a 12-9 margin.

Neither team could break the deadlock in the third period, sending the game into a shootout. Niagara led shots on goal 12-6 in the frame, finishing with a 29-27 overall advantage.
