Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Barrie Colts improved their pre-season record to 4-1 with a 4-2 victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Thursday night in Barrie. The Colts jumped-out to an early lead when Wolves' defenceman Jonathan Masters fell and gave the Colts a 3-on-1 situation. The Colts made no mistake.
Wolves' veteran forward Brody Silk evened the score on the power play as the wily veteran fired a hard shot past Barrie goaltender Jan Gibl to tie the score 1-1 after one period of play. Shots on goal favoured the Colts 14-8.
The Colts dominated the second period outshooting the Wolves 11-2. The Wolves took a number of needless penalties and the Colts enjoyed a 5-on-3 power play for over a minute. Wolves' goaltender Troy Timpano was the Wolves best penalty-killer on this night, but, the Colts managed two goals including one which was deflected off of a Wolves' defender to take a 3-1 lead into the final period.
The Wolves outshot the Colts 10-6 in the third period and Brody Silk scored his second goal of the night early in the third period to narrow the gap to 3-2. The Colts scored a short-handed goal with just under 10 minutes remaining to seal the deal 4-2. Shots on goal finished 31-20 in favour of the Colts. The Wolves were without the services of overage defenceman Jeff Corbett and forwards Nick Baptiste, Pavel Jenys and Matt Schmalz.
With the loss, the Wolves pre-season record falls to 1-4. The Wolves and the Colts will stage a repeat performance Friday night in Sudbury. Game time is 7:30 and there are plenty of great seats available for Friday's game for only $12 for all ages.
