(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - With an almost robotic demeanour, Canadians hurler LHP Randy Pondler methodically worked his way through the Boise Hawks offense scattering just three hits allowing one unearned run to help pace Vancouver to a 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon. The win ensures that Vancouver (17-12) wake up on Saturday morning in sole possession of top spot in the North Division with just nine regular season games remaining on the schedule.

Pondler (5-4) struck out eight on the afternoon before handing the ball to RHP Justin Watts (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 1SO) and RHP Cobi Johnson (1.0IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 2SO) to secure the victory with Johnson converting his 10th save in as many opportunities.

Offensively the C's got a pair of long balls that proved to be enough as RF Griffin Conine hit a 95-mph fastball to the opposite field off Boise starter RHP Jeffri Ocando that sailed over the left field fence to give Vancouver an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. 2B Nick Podkul hit his 3rd home run of the summer onto the "hey y'all!" Porch to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning which ended up being the game-winning run. Both runs came against RHP Jeffri Ocando who fell to 1-4 after the hard luck loss.

With the win, Vancouver improves to 36-31 (.537) on the season and 17-12 (.586) on the second half moving 1 1/2 games up on Spokane who will host Salem-Keizer later tonight out at Avista Stadium.

Vancouver will send RHP Josh Winckowski (4-4, 2.29) to the mound in search of the Canadians second straight victory and is coming off of his 2nd Northwest League Pitcher of the Week acknowledgement in the past three weeks.

The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club announced on Friday that the upcoming post-game Fireworks Extravaganza set for Saturday, August 25th has been cancelled out of respect to the many BC Firefighters who continue to take on the countless blazes that exist throughout our province. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these brave women and men.
