Rampage's Timon Marshall named to AFL U.S. Army All-Ironman team
May 18, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release
The Arena Football League has announced that Grand Rapids Rampage WR/LB Timon Marshall is among just 14 players to be named to the 2006 AFL U.S. Army All-Ironman team.
"Ironman football is what this league all about," noted Marshall. "To be named an All-Ironman member is one of the biggest and best honors you can get. I could not have done this without the guidance of my coaches and the play of my teammates. This honor is just as much theirs as it is mine."
Marshall had a breakout 2006 season, setting career marks in every single category offensively, defensively and on special teams. He led the AFL with 2,734 all-purpose yards and became the first two-way player in league history to tally at least 1,300 receiving yards with 1,300 kickoff return yards in the same season.
In Week Four against San Jose, Marshall made his first AFL start and immediately made an impact. He posted the first of five 200-yard all-purpose games in the team's first ever victory over the SaberCats when he registered 262 yards and three scores. Marshall was named the Offensive Player of the Game, AFLWA Player of the Week and ArenaFan Online's Two-Way Player of the Week for his performance vs. San Jose. Later in the season, he earned AFL Ironman of the Week after the team's impressive win over the Arizona Rattlers. He was also named Ironman of the Game twice.
For the first three weeks of the season, Marshall backed up Josh Bush at the WR/DB position. When Bush was injured in the Week Three win over Los Angeles, Marshall moved into the starting WR/DB role. Midway through the season, he was moved to WR/LB when the team signed former AFL Ironman of the Year Dameon Porter.
On the season, Marshall caught 102 passes for 1,324 yards (19 TDs); returned 69 kickoffs for 1,316 yards (1 TD), rushed twice for two yards (1 TD), intercepted three passes for 33 yards, and returned two missed field goals for 59 yards. He also posted 39.0 tackles, half a sack and five pass breakups. His 2,734 all-purpose yards is the most in team single-season history and ranks 15th most in AFL history.
Marshall becomes just the fourth Rampage player ever to be named to the All-Ironman team; joining FB/LB Chris Avery (2003, 2005), WR/LB Michael Baker (1999) and FB/LB Chris Ryan (2002). With Baker as the Rampage's offensive/special teams coordinator, all four of Grand Rapids' Ironman team members were part of the 2006 squad.
