San Antonio Rampage News Release

The students of Ms. Pineda's fifth grade read the most minutes of all participating fifth grades classes, over 54,000, in this year's IBC Slam Dunk Reading Challenge. To honor the success of the class, Rampage defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski will host a question and answer session with 21 inquiring minds on Wednesday.

The IBC Slam Dunk Reading Challenge, which was held from November 1-12, 2004, provided third, fourth and fifth grade classes in Bexar County public schools the opportunity to show their teamwork by reading books, magazines and newspapers to compete for the most minutes read as a class. The top 20 classes per grade level with the most accumulated minutes won tickets to Rampage or Spurs games.

As an organization, the Rampage feels it is especially important for San Antonio to embrace literacy due to the recent findings from the "America's Most Literate Cities" study which ranked San Antonio 75th out of 79 cities across the country.
