
Darby Named Dodge AHL All-Star Classic Captain

Springfield, Mass. - Springfield Falcons center Craig Darby has been named playing captain for the PlanetUSA team at the 2005 Dodge American Hockey League All-Star Classic as announced by the AHL today. This season's Classic will be held at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., home arena of the Manchester Monarchs. Falcons' Tenth Anniversary Team honoree Brad Tiley, a current member of the Milwaukee Admirals, was named playing captain for the Canadian AHL All-Star team.
Darby, 32, leads the Falcons with 18 assists and ranks third in points with 21 this season â his first with Springfield. In 587 career AHL games, the Oneida, N.Y. native has registered 555 points (197g, 358a) with the Falcons, Albany River Rats, Quebec Citadelles, Philadelphia Phantoms, Worcester IceCats and Fredericton Canadiens.
Darby was named to the AHL First All-Star Team in 1997-98 after he tied for second in league goal scoring (42) and sixth in points (87) as a member of the Phantoms. He helped lead Philadelphia to a Calder Cup championship that season. Darby was named to the league's Second All-Star Team for the 2002-03 campaign while with Albany.
This season will mark Darby's fifth AHL All-Star Classic appearance. He also participated in the event in 1995, 1998, 2002, and 2004.
Darby was selected in the second round (43rd overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. The 12-year professional has recorded 56 points (21g, 35a) in 196 NHL games with Montreal, the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and New Jersey Devils during his career.
Tiley, 33, was voted to the Falcons Tenth Anniversary Team by fans last season through the team's web site. The native of Markdale, Ont. skated three seasons with the Falcons (1997-2000) and is the franchise's all-time leading scorer among defenseman with 153 points (33g, 120a). Tiley garnered the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL Defenseman of the Year as well as First Team All-Star honors while with the Falcons in 1999-00. Tiley has recorded 14 points (6g, 8a) with Milwaukee this season. He won a Calder Cup championship with the club last season.
Of the 328 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the NHL, including former Falcons Daniel Briere and Manny Legace, current Tampa Bay Lightning Martin St. Louis and Vaclav Prospal, Andrew Brunette, Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, Rick DiPietro, J.P. Dumont, Patrick Elias, John Madden, Ladislav Nagy, Marc Savard, Steve Sullivan, and Tomas Vokoun.
Previous players honored as AHL All-Star team captains include Terry Virtue, Travis Richards, John Slaney, Randy Cunneyworth, Peter White, Ken Gernander, Peter Laviolette, John Stevens and Jody Gage.
The 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic begins on Sunday, February 13, with the 2005 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, February 14, and will be televised live nationally in the United States and Canada.
